Ten different number plates in Kenya you should know.

If you own a car in Kenya, you must have a registration number on your vehicle.

Did you know that in Kenya, there are up to 10 different types of automobile license plates? I'll lay them out for you and explain them in detail so you can grasp them.

1. for civilian vehicles.

Number plates of this sort are the most frequent. KBZ 696X, for example, is made up of four letters and three numbers. The registration number is printed in black ink on a white or yellow backdrop and begins with the letter K.

2. Vehicles used by the government.

This is a list of the Kenyan government's cars. This vehicle's license plate begins with a GK. Police cars are a good illustration.

3. Vehicles used by the county government.

This is a collection of vehicles owned by the county administration. The registration mechanism for county government cars is somehow unique. 021 CG 467G is an example of a county government car number plate. The county code is 021, and CG stands for County Government.

4. Vehicles used by county governors.

A governor is the most powerful elected official in a county, and their cars receive special license plates. A nice example of a county governor's number plate is GVN 021A. The letters GVN stand for governor, while 021 stands for the county code, which in this case is Murang'a.

5. Vehicles used by parastatals and government institutions.

These are vehicles owned by government agencies, schools, hospitals, and universities. These vehicles have the same number plates as civilian vehicles, but the background color is usually blue or dark blue.

6. Diplomatic transport.

Foreign agencies own these vehicles, but they are based in the country. On a red background, the numbers are written in white. For example, 88 CD 19 K is a code for a specific country. The letters CD and K stand for chartered diplomat and Kenya, respectively.

7. International non-governmental organizations.

International non-governmental organizations have their own number plate category. The registration numbers begin with KX and are written in white on a red backdrop. KX 07 D 59, for example. KX denotes an international NG, whereas 07 D denotes a specific NGO and officer rank.

8. Kdf.

The Kenyan defense forces' vehicles do not begin with a GK. The number plate on KDF vehicles is unique and adheres to worldwide numbering.

9. Plates for trailers.

A truck can transport numerous trailers in a single day, and as you may have noticed, each trailer has its own plate beginning with the letter (Z).

Motorbikes and tuktuks are among the most common modes of transportation.

They both have the same engine and can transport a maximum of two or three passengers. Their license plates are black and feature four letters on them.

10. Personalized plates.

Kenya's most expensive plates. You can choose to have a personalised number plate for your car, but it will cost you at least one million shillings.
